If you currently breed horses, it matters that you know how to care for them and how to look after them especially when they have certain conditions. Some of these animals maybe diagnosed with condition typical to their breed. The key is for owners like you to know what must be done to correct these issues and address these conditions efficiently.

Sometimes, a horse may be affected by a condition that will cause it lameness. This condition is often considered heel pain or also known as navicular syndrome in horses. This is a degenerative condition that affects the navicular bone and the surrounding soft tissues. The lameness may be slight to moderate, though rarely severe.

Condition’s like these are considered to be more common in horses than in ponies. They are also more common to those animals who happen to have a foot conformation that is similar to thoroughbreds. For instance, the animal concerned may have long toes, or has a low and collapsed heel.

If a horse has the condition, it is expected that he may exhibit signs that show lameness on its forelimbs. This is not just limited to a single too. There have been instances when it can actually be noticed in different legs at different given times. Often, rest and anti-inflammatories are used to address the condition.

It is often necessary for the animal to undergo imaging procedures in order to ascertain the extent of the issue. X-rays are often taken to examine the areas that are affected by the disease. This allows the veterinary experts to evaluate the actual severity of the changes. This helps eliminate other possible problems as well.

There are many treatment options available for animals that are diagnosed with the condition. Consider all these treatments that your horse is likely going to be subjected to. Choose one that would suit your horse best. Talk to your veterinarian too. He will be able to offer you better suggestions on what you need to do.

Locate the right professionals that can assist you this time too. You need vets that are considered experts when it comes to dealing with issues and conditions pertaining to horses. This is important so you are sure that they would know exactly what it is that they need to do to address the condition of the animal.

Their level of experience should be considered too. See if you are dealing with providers who have the most experience in the field. They would have a better idea of what it is that they are supposed to do to make sure that the condition is successfully as evidenced by the number of years that they have remained active in the field.

Most of the experts agree that the best way for the horse to recover is to allow it to rest. If it is doing rigid work, it is best to allow it some time to rest from such work as well. Not a lot of people find those desirable, but these steps are necessary to allow the horse enough time to really heal.

One needs to understand that this condition is life-long. Once a horse has been diagnosed with one, it is expected to be with the horse for its entire life. But it is manageable. With proper care and attention, the animal should be back into its athletic soundness and function in no time.
